World of Warcraft Item Upgrades

Upgrades to items can be used to boost the stats of a particular item. Based on the type of upgrade it could boost an item's Mark Level or Rarity, and also boost other stats.

Each item comes with a track for upgrading it. Each upgrade increases the price of the next item by a specified amount.

Item Level

The value of an item's stats base increases as it is upgraded. This value is the total of all the leveled up benefits (attack magic attack, attack defense). Upgrades can be expensive, dependent on who you employ and what you decide to do. This is due to the number of perks that need to be altered to upgrade an item.

Item level is a commonly used measure of power, and is visible on all tooltips of items. It can also be used to determine a gating condition when waiting for dungeons, scenarios, and raids, as well as to limit the amount of PvP gear a player can wear (since PvP is limited to an lower level). Players can view their average item level in their character sheet.

When deciding whether to buy or sell gear players can evaluate the level of an item. It's a useful indicator of an item's quality and how much damage it's capable of causing. Comparing items in the inventory of a vendor can be done by using the level of the item.

The level of the item can be seen by pressing the ALT key on your PC or using the left stick (L3) on XB1 and PS4. This will show the full description of the item, as well as its level. It can also be located by hovering an item with the mouse cursor, and then typing /itemlevel in chat.

There are a few theories about how the calculation of an item's level is carried out. One theory suggests that the level of an item is calculated by formulas that determine the worth of the stats of an item really are. It takes into account the fact that different perks have different values and gems in sockets increase the overall value of the item. This process can result in a calculated value for the item's ilvl, which is typically close to the actual Blizzard level of the item.

However, this is not the only factor which can affect an item's ilvl since the size of the area the item was dropped in could change the value of its stats, for instance by adding an additional level to its haste rating or crit rating. This means that items that drop at higher levels will have more ilvl than those from lower-level instances.

Item Stats

Stats on an item are a significant element in what determines the value of an item for players. The game uses a variety of them in different ways to encourage players to play with a variety of weapons, and also to stop one weapon from being "the most effective." The base stats of a weapon are enhanced by the weapon's stat mods which are then enhanced by the player's level.

The upgrades to items add by increasing certain stats of the item. The rarity of an item determines its upgrade cost. A white or grey item for instance, will only be upgraded one time, while an item with rare tiers can be upgraded multiple times at more expensive costs.

Affixes are a different method to change an item's stats. These are special stat boosts that can be added to an item by the player and come in a variety of sizes and shapes. The affixes can be used to provide items with extra damage or special abilities (such as revitalizing dead or reducing cooling downs), or to distinguish them by naming them.

All affixes are re-rolled at the moment by selecting them in the upgrade menu and pressing the green button. This procedure will cost the player a specific amount of gold and other items, which can be used to add to the upgrade gauge in the same way as other rerolling options.

Players can choose to upgrade an item with specific stats or reroll attaches. The possible stat ranges of an item are based on the level of the item, however all items are guaranteed to have at minimum one stat within the specified range, unless it is an exclusive item or a God roll from a raid boss.

This is another thing that could be altered by adding the option to upgrade the equipment without rerolling the affixes or choosing which stats to boost. However, as with the base equipment, this would need to be carried out on a per-item basis and the interface for comparing items wouldn't show all possible stats either lost or gained at the same time.

Item Luck

The Luck stat for a player adds up to increase the odds of item discoveries, the properties spawned on loot drops and the intensity of the properties. It does not, however directly affect damage or the ability to upgrade items. It provides players with an opportunity to get better equipment earlier in the game. This is more advantageous for early game runs, since players tend to prioritize weapon scaling and defenses above raw damage gains.

Luck can also boost the chance of upgrading items at the Blacksmith. This isn't to be confused with the Blacksmith’s overall upgrade chances that increase with each new level of item. They can also be increased by using anti-materials, such as the Scroll of Strength and a Jewel of Blessing.

Armor, shields, and weapons have the default Luck value of 40. These items can be improved with golden ingots, or spined leather (depending on the type of material) for a further +40 luck or to increase the luck of the item to 140.

Moreover, certain items, such as the Hollow infused weapon, can be equipped to boost the damage of any damage-dealing skill by 5percent. These items can be found in the shop or crafted by using the appropriate ingredients.

Item Failure

Upgrades to items can be expensive and not all upgrades will be successful. Cash shop items can be used to boost the success rate of an upgrade or to stop players from losing their item in the event that it is not successful.

The rate of success of an upgrade is shown in the Honing UI. The percentage indicates the probability of successful upgrading an item. This can be increased with Additional Materials or Special materials. There are limitations to the extent to which success rates can be increased, and the overall chance of an upgrade failing cannot be greater than 100%..

The performance of an upgrades is also influenced by the luck of that item. Each item has an initial success rate of 25%, and every item with Luck increases that chance by an additional 5percent.

Note that  item upgrade s are rendered above the inventory items therefore enchantment glints and other effects may be obscured by them. If you wish to disable the upgrade overlays, the config option decoration.renderUpgradeOverlays can be set to False in the Item Upgrader CORE client config.
